The system of education in Sri Sathya Sai educational institutions mirrors the ancient Gurukula system that was followed in India in the days of yore. The Gurus or preceptors in those days recognized that merely absorbing secular knowledge for the sake of earning a living was not sufficient to ensure that the students achieved true happiness in their lives. They placed equal emphasis on the use of that knowledge towards serving society, and equipped their students with the wisdom to lead their lives in a righteous and responsible manner. Character building was considered the ideal of education. The ultimate goal of the educational system was in keeping with the scriptural declaration “Sa Vidya Ya Vimukthaye” (True education is that which liberates).
The education system in our country today is in stark contrast to that ideal. Crass commercialization of this field is fast leading to a situation where the society is materially affluent but morally bankrupt. The values of truth, reverence, gratitude and righteousness have been forced to take a backseat and have been replaced by a hedonistic craving for power and wealth. But, if the turmoil in society in general and the unrest amongst students in particular is in any indicator, this system is no longer serving its purpose.
It is in this context that Sri Sathya Sai Baba has pioneered the concept of “Educare”. The word educare in Latin means manifesting that which is latent within. The system of education in the schools and colleges set up by Baba is a holistic one that aims at drawing out the knowledge, human values and wisdom that are present in a latent form in the student. In 1981, Baba set up the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning by fusing together the colleges that had been established earlier at Anantapur, Whitefield and Puttaparthi. The Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School at Prasanthi Nilayam was started in 1983. These institutions provide education from the primary school level right up to the post-doctoral level. No fees whatsoever are charged from the students in these establishments. To visit the official website of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning click the button below.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba launched the SSSVV program on 23rd November, 2010 to meet the growing need for holistic education for all. This project harnesses technology to replicate on a national scale, the success of the model of integral education followed at the Sai schools and university in and around Prasanthi Nilayam, which combine values-based education with academic excellence. It aims to create a generation of well-qualified young men and women, with a burning desire to serve the motherland, a strong sense of responsible citizenship, integrity, and empathy for their brethren, apart from a spiritual outlook. The guiding principle of SSSVV is to make human values infused secular information available free to teachers and their pupils. Leveraging technology for remote access, the program calls upon the altruistic attitude of enthusiastic volunteers with education, training and technology backgrounds to achieve the dream of Integral Education for All, Integral Education by All.

Sri Sathya Sai Mobile Hospital Programme is a unique rural outreach health service launched by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba on March 30, 2006 to provide holistic health services completely free of charge to patients. It operates from the 1st to 12th day of every month at 12 nodal points (base villages) drawn from 6 mandals from Anantapur District, namely Puttaparthi, Kothacheruvu, Bukkapatnam, Chennekothapalli (C.K.Palli), Nallamada and Obuladevaracheruvu (O.D.Cheruvu). Each of these 12 nodal points serve several surrounding villages. Currently this Mobile Hospital serves patients from 63 target villages along with the patients visiting from about 400 villages in the region. About 500 doctors from the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana belonging to 12 specialties dedicate their skills and serve as volunteers on an ongoing basis.
Some of the unique features of the Mobile Hospital include diagnostic facilities such as an ultrasound with colour doppler and 2D echocardiogram, digital x-ray and a laboratory, which can conduct most of the routine pathological and bio-chemical investigations. The presence of this diagnostic support ensures quality and credibility to the services provided. A new dental van is now part of this grand medical mission.
As an outreach programme, the theme of the Mobile Hospital includes three main aspects of service consisting of (i) Curative drive (ii) Preventive focus and (iii) Spiritual base.

Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital, Prasanthi Nilayam, Puttaparthi is the first Institution to be established by Sri Sathya Sai Baba in 1956. The seed that was planted by Baba then, has grown today into the large Sri Sathya Sai Healthcare wing, with establishment of Super Speciality Hospitals, Mobile Medical services, Nationwide healthcare service programs including free medical camps as well as International Medicare Projects. In these days when medicine has become a business and rural healthcare is abysmally inadequate, Baba’s free Medicare in rural India, which this hospital represents, stands as a beacon of light for others to emulate.
The philosophy of this hospital in the words of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the Founder, is as follows:
“People of this village and villages that are in the surrounding area, will resort to this
hospital for medical relief and advice. Unfortunately hospitals that treat patients with love and
care, with dedication and devotion, are a rarity. There are hospitals with costly equipment and expert
doctors, huge buildings and spick-and-span interiors, but they indulge more in profiteering than
affording relief. Their services are for those who can pay large sums of money. Villagers are not
welcome there, who in turn do not feel at ease to approach them. Therefore this hospital is being
started amidst the villages so that expert advice and treatment can be rendered, to them in a loving
atmosphere of love and devotion.”
All the services in the hospital are offered completely free of cost to all the patients based on the facilities available. However, it is practically not possible to cater to the needs of everyone who visits. Therefore, the Hospital primarily focuses on the needs of the residents of Sri Sathya Sai Taluka, which includes Bukkapatnam, Kothacheruvu and Puttaparthi mandals. Other patients presenting with simple general illnesses or those landing up in the emergency with acute conditions are served depending upon the manageability within the setup. The hospital does not provide general medical checkups or treatment for chronic ailments for such patients.
